PRime is a "prime" example of American vocal jazz, featuring musicians from the Detroit metro area. The vocal ensemble performs unaccompanied or backed by a 4-piece band. The group performs a wide variety of audience-pleasing music, ranging from jazz to pop/rock to classical.
PRime has recorded two CDs, toured Russia, and performed by invitation in 1999 at the World Choral Symposium and North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands) and at the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland). PRime has performed at the Michigan Jazz Festival for many years, appeared at the Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival, at the Birmingham (MI) Jazz Festival, the National Assn. of Jazz Educators National Conference, as well as at jazz clubs, auctions, church music series, private parties and public concerts.
PRime's vocalists:
- Cat Hadrian - lead soprano
- Ginny Lundquist - soprano II
- Gwen Jacques - alto
- Steve SeGraves - tenor, music director
- Carl Rinne - baritone, trombone
- Norm Thompson- bass
PRime also performs with a small swing band and with One Beat Back, an 18-piece big band!
